Let's Go Spelunking!!!!!

Every quarter, the 5th hour science
class visits Illinois Caverns, located at Burksville, Illinois. These
caverns, the largest cavern system in Illinois, contains 3 species of bats
including the Indiana bat which is an endangered species. Of even
more interest, the Illinois ampipod, a small crustacean, can be found here.
Illinois caverns is one of only three cave sites where this endangered
species lives.
Items
necessary to bring for field trip:

hard hat
(some will be provided)

2 flashlights

a plastic
bag to carry home wet clothing

lunch

tennis shoes
or hard toe boots

complete
change of clothing
Safety precautions:

Always carry
2 flashlights

Do not enter
caverns in groups of less than 3

Be sure
to alert others of your whereabouts before entering the caves

Do not enter
the caverns if there is threat of rain due to the dangers of flooding.

You must
have a signed emergency treatment form on file with the teacher.
