Dr. Gabrielle (Gabe) Schwemmer, is Sparta's Superintendent as of July 1, 2017. She comes to the district from the St. Clair County Regional Office of Education as the Director of School Improvement, transforming the lowest performing school districts in Illinois for the Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools. Prior to the ROE, Dr. Gabe spent 13 years as a teacher and administrator in the Cahokia School District. She is a Freeburg Midget alumni and received her doctorate in Educational Administration from St. Louis University.
She resides in Waterloo with her husband of 20 years, Justin, her 3 daughters Jordyn (17), Maddy (14), Camryn (13), and her son Lane (8). Dr. Gabe enjoys watching her children in their basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball, and barrel racing sports. She has served as the Treasurer and Master Board Member for the Smithton School Board of Education for 6 years, Southwestern Division Resolutions Chair for the Illinois Association of School Boards, was the 2011 Citizen of the Year and is the recipient of the Phenomenal Women of Metropolitan St. Louis. She loves her Sparta District #140 family.
